Varman resigns to take up better deal

Fiji FA Referees Director Rakesh Varman has resigned to take up a better overseas offer.

The former FIFA Badge holder who is also a FIFA Instructor is understood to have sealed a deal with Cook Islands Football Federation and will leave in February.

Speaking to FijiLive, the Suva based businessman said it was a hard decision to part ways from Fiji FA but he believes in taking up new challenges and is excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.

“I gave my best while being in charge as RDO in Fiji. Under my guidance, our referees achieved FIFA and OFC qualifications. We now have 4 FIFA, 3 OFC Futsal, 3 OFC Women and 8 OFC referees and assistant referees.”

“With competitions and the number of games increasing, we had to develop and maintain good referees and I can proudly say that we currently have a very good mix of young and experienced referees. We also have many upcoming female referees,” he said.

Varman officiated as a referee from 1993 to 2017 and took up the RDO position with Fiji FA in 2019.

Meanwhile Fiji FA has advertised his position and applications close on 30 December.
