Labasa women’s skipper Sofi Diyalowai says the Babasiga Lionesses have set their sights on redemption at this year’s OFC Women’s Champions League in Honiara, Solomon Islands next month.
The team is gearing up for their second consecutive appearance in the regional competition, aiming to improve on last year’s performance.
Last year in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, Labasa finished fourth, securing just one win from four matches.
“We’ve been working hard for quite some time,”
“In our first outing, it was tough competing against other strong countries. But this time, with most girls being from Kula’s national team, our fitness levels are high. We’ll give it our very best,” said the skipper.
The Labasa team will feature several National Kulas players, including experienced goalkeeper Selai Tikoisuva and national skipper Unaisi Tuberi, alongside Shayal Sindhika, Vanisha Kumar, Ema Mereia, Filomena Racea, Sonia Alfred, and Diyalowa herself, is expected to elevate Labasa’s performance.
Drawn in Group B, Labasa faces stiff competition from Auckland United FC of New Zealand, Veitongo FC from Tonga, and the defending champions, AS Academy Féminine of New Caledonia.
