Proposed framework presented to communities

The Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs, in collaboration with New Zealand-based consultant Dr Rajend Prasad and Radhe Nand, has completed the draft framework for the Ministry and is now undertaking the task of presenting it to communities for their views.

Following the consultations, the final document will be submitted to Minister Responsible, Charan Jeath Singh.

The framework is a significant milestone in fostering unity and inclusivity within Fiji’s diverse communities.

The draft framework aimed at cultivating trust and respect amongst communities, as well as fostering stronger ties between the Government and its citizens.

The framework envisions Fiji as a socially cohesive nation where individuals from all backgrounds – regardless of ethnicity, caste, creed, culture, tradition, language, or religion – can coexist harmoniously in an integrated and inclusive manner.

Throughout the second phase of consultation, the draft framework has been presented to communities across the country, garnering widespread support and meeting the expectations of participants as outlined in the first phase of consultation which commenced last year in November.

Minister Singh thanked the consultants for designing the framework and acknowledged the contribution and commitment shown by community members towards finalizing the draft document.

He said he is looking forward to receiving the final document after the consultation and contribution from the community members.

The presentations, conducted in the Central, Western, and Northern Divisions, saw the active involvement of district officers, advisory councilors, religious leaders, and representatives from various communities.

Dr Prasad and Nand will present the final framework to the Minister on Friday, 8 March.
