Mental toughness a key focus: Daveua

Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s skipper Raijieli Daveua says mental toughness is a crucial area for improvement following their performance at the Hong Kong 7s.

Despite a quarterfinal loss, the team managed to secure valuable points, currently placing Fiji 6th in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series standings with 54 points.

“It was a good performance by the ladies. I know we lost in the quarters, but we came back. The main thing is the points, and we are working hard for it.”

She pinpointed mental toughness and game reading as the key areas needing enhancement.

“I think we got the fitness, but we only need the mental toughness, how we read the games—that’s the main thing for us,” Daveua explained.

The skipper also outlined the team’s commitment to improvement and preparation for the upcoming Olympic challenges.

“It’s an Olympic, we’re going to work hard, and we’ll see what’s next.”

Daveua called for continued support from their fans, urging them to keep faith in the team.

“Please keep on supporting us, do not lose in us, pray for us, and cheer for us,” she appealed.
