Complaint against President for alleged tax invasion

A new complaint has been lodged against the former FijiFirst President and current Fiji’s President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere for alleged tax evasion and non-declaration of interest, in the Macuata Tikina Holdings Tax Affairs.

In a letter to the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service by complainant Alexandra Forwood, she said that Ratu Wiliame whilst a FijiFirst Party official, did not declare the assets and income derived from his company, received as rent from leases with the department of Immigration, Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Health, the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and the Labasa Court House.

Forwood alleged that Macuata Tikina Holdings also did not declare the taxable income and assets earned from 2022 and 2023, with the FEO.

She also alleges that Ratu Wiliame under his directorship of Aquilo Gold PTE Limited, filed taxes for 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 – Forwood said these incomes and assets were not declared with the FEO, except for the value of the shares owned.

Forwood has requested the tax office to investigate the matter and refer to the Fijian Elections Office for documentations and verification.

Meanwhile, the deputy Director of Governance and Risk Ilaisa Lakepa has acknowledged that he has received the complaint and that due diligence is being undertaken.

Lakepa said he could not comment any further on the matter.
