Seahawks forward Navue to debut for Fijiana 7s

Mere Navue from Yako village, Nadroga will make her debut for the Fijiana 7s team at the upcoming Singapore 7s tournament.

Navue, stepping in for the injured Heleina Young, began her rugby career in 2019 after being inspired by her sister to join the Seahawks.

Speaking about her selection, Navue shared her emotions and the influence of her late coach, Elenoa Kunatuba.

“She was the one that pushed me every day. She saw potential in me. I did not expect to be part of the team in Singapore, we were all sitting and waiting for the names to be called, and then they called the 13th player and I heard my name,” she said.

Despite being the 13th player, often seen as just the travelling reserve, Navue is determined to prove her worth.

“I want to prove to the coach that even though I’m the 13th player, they usually say the 13th player is the travelling reserve, but I won’t be demotivated and I will work hard with these remaining few days before the weekend,” Navue asserted.
