Dead inmate had serious medical conditions

An inmate who died in a Fiji Corrections Service facility had serious medical condition and investigations into his death will not continue.

This was highlighted by the Attorney-General Siromi Turaga while answering queries on the progress of investigation into the matter.

Turaga said the post mortem report confirms that the inmate had serious medical conditions and it was not a sudden passing as claimed on social media.

He said by the time he was presented to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, the man had died.

“There is now no need for further investigation on the matter.”

There was uproar on social media on the laxity of those that serve at the Fiji Corrections Service, forcing the service provider to lodge an investigation into the care and security of inmates at the Naboro Prison.
