Fijiana settles for fifth place at HK 7s

The Fijiana 7s women’s team secured the 5th place at the Hong Kong 7s against Canada in a match that ended 19-15 in favor of Fiji.

Canada initiated the scoring with Krissy Scurfield finding the try line early in the match, but Chloe Daniels missed the conversion, leaving the score at 5-0.

Fijiana responded swiftly as Helaina Young, leveraging her track and field speed, dashed under the post to score in the 7th minute, with Lavena Cavuru’s conversion putting Fijiana ahead 7-5 by halftime.

The second half saw Fijiana’s Meredani Qoro extend the lead in the 9th minute with a try under the posts, complemented by Ana Naimasi’s successful conversion, taking the score to 14-5.

Continuing Fijiana’s momentum, another track convert, Younis Bese, raced to the corner for a try in the 11th minute, although the subsequent conversion by Naimasi was unsuccessful, pushing Fiji to 19-5.

Canada fought back with Piper Logan scoring in the 12th minute and Fancy Bermudez adding another try in the 16th minute.

Despite these efforts, Fijiana maintained their lead to clinch the win.
