Kauyaca defends Cruiserweight title

Fiji Cruiserweight champion Alifereti Kauyaca retained his title after beating Joseph Kwadjo on an unanimous points decision at the Vodafone Arena.

The Ba man dropped a few kilos to fight Kwadjo and he says it really affected his strength but managed to pull through in the 10 rounds

“I wasn’t 100% fit today, I didn’t manage to evacuate the game plan but we were fortunate,” he said.

“Kwadjo was the last man standing in the Cruiserweight divison in Fiji so we can see now who the best cruiserweight champion is at the moment.”

With this win, Kauyaca cements his position as Fiji’s leading cruiserweight, although he plans to take some time off before deciding on his next move.

“I haven’t made any future plans; I will rest for some days with my family then plan later,” said Kauyaca.

Veteran Boxer Joseph Kwadjo praised Kauyaca saying he was the better man tonight and congratulated him for the win.

“He has done a good job, he was moving around, I wish him all the best.”

“We had to plan according to his moves, if he’ll stay inside, what were we going to do or when he moves,” said Kwadjo.
