Lawlessness has continued to increase: Koya

Opposition Member of Parliament, Faiyaz Koya has lashed out at the Coalition Government for mishandling the safety, security, and stability of Fiji’s economy which he terms as the key drivers of any economy.

In a statement, Koya said these three pillars drive the economy and the level of lawlessness has continued to increase dramatically.

Koya said the issue is not just isolated to the bad elements of society but as a whole and is not a problem of the Government but of a problem for all Fijians.

He said this is not just a problem for Fiji but one that is spread throughout the world and we must bend together to find solutions to these problems.

“Something that the Government must do is to ensure there is investor confidence because that is something Fiji lacks.”

“Every time we would go past Lami, my father used to tell me, if you see smoke coming out from the cement factory, you know the economy is working.” Guess what? There has been no smoke there for 14 months.”

“Nothing is happening. It is just not happening and this is not us telling you off, it is just critiquing, so please, accept it. It is not happening,” Koya said.

The former Trade Minister said this this the incompetence of the Government and is getting worse.

Koya claimed that Fiji’s coffers are in a state of fragility.

He said that the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad is still trying to create a new national plan.

“It is a joke that by the time Prof Prasad finishes with the new NDP, it will be election time again and what is he going to do with that three-year plan?

Koya added that the Government is disconnected and is not listening to the people.
