LTA to review and enhance internal systems

In light of a scam where three officers were implicated in the issuance of illegal taxi permits in the Western Division, the Land Transport Authority is working on reviewing and enhancing internal systems, internal monitoring mechanisms, and implement robust risk mitigation strategies.

This proactive approach underscores the Authority’s commitment to preventing similar incidents in the future, ensuring the reliability and security of its operations.

Acting chief executive, Irimaia Rokosawa said the issuance of taxi permits will now be handled exclusively by regional managers and team leaders to restrict unauthorised access to the process.

He said the Authority will also explore the implementation of an electronic system for the issuance of permits to eliminate potential loopholes in the manual issuance process.

“The LTA unequivocally condemns corruption and collusion, and remains committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of the public.”

“The Authority also understands the impact of this incident on the affected individuals
and the broader community.”

“Therefore, we encourage individuals who may have obtained taxi permits through
transactions not undertaken at arm’s length or over the counter to come forward and report the matter to the Fiji Police Force, as their co-operation is crucial in assisting with ongoing investigations.”

Rokosawa said LTA’s paramount goal is to swiftly retrieve and confiscate all illegal number plates and taxi permits linked to the implicated officers.

“The Authority is intensifying efforts to identify and neutralise any additional individuals
outside LTA who may have been involved in this collusion.”

“We remain resolute in our commitment to protecting the integrity of our transport system and maintaining the safety and trust of the public.”

Rokosawa is urging the cooperation of all stakeholders and the public in reporting any sightings or knowledge of vehicles operating with suspicious or fraudulent permits.

“The Authority wishes to advise the public that it is fully co-operating with relevant authorities to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.”

“LTA is committed to taking decisive actions to address this issue and to prevent similar
incidents from occurring in the future.”

“The organisation remains steadfast in its dedication to transparency, accountability, and the highest ethical standards.”
