Prasad hits back at Sayed-Khaiyum’s statement

Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, has lashed out at Opposition MP Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum for his comments labelling the appointments of all the Coalition Government MPs as ‘lavish’.

Prof Prasad responded to Sayed-Khaiyum, saying it was a bit rich for him to label it lavish.

“We do not believe in a minister having 10 ministerial positions to themselves. We believe in sharing the work. We believe that ministers having individual responsibilities for certain areas will get the work done better.”

“We have seen some disasters that have happened over the last several years in terms of power being consolidated in the hands of a few people.”

Prof Prasad said the former Attorney-General should rest a bit, to just chill and wait for this Government to deliver.

“We are obviously focused on reducing the cost of Government. I have already said that we are going to announce further reductions, apart from the 20 per cent reduction we have for the Prime Minister and Ministers, which will be followed through.

“We do not see this as a lavish expenditure, in fact, anybody who talks about lavish expenditure should look at the FijiFirst Government,” Prof Prasad added.
