Five people have been arrested and are in custody after a random Police check on the road, unearthed large amounts of illicit drugs on them in Lautoka over the Easter weekend.
Police say the five men were arrested in two separate incidences.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said that in the first incident, the two men, aged 32 and 23 years, had their vehicle stopped and searched along Kings Road near Lovu.
Police found several clear plastics containing white crystals believed to be methamphetamine in their possession.
In the second incident in Waiyavi, Lautoka, ACP Driu said three men aged 50, 40, and 27 years were arrested following the discovery of a plastic containing white powder believed to be cocaine and one zip-lock plastic containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
ACP Driu said the dried leaves believed to be marijuana were also seized in two separate reports of alleged Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs.
ACP Driu said following community outreach in the Navosa area, close to 400 plants believed to be marijuana have been seized at Nailawa Settlement, Navosa.
The owner of the farm is known to the Police as investigations continue.
All seized substances and plants have been sent for analysis.
