Singh reappointed FSC CEO

The Fiji Sugar Corporation Limited (FSC) has announced the reappointment of its current Chief Executive, Bhan Pratap Singh, for a further term of 3 years, effective from 25 March 2024.

A science graduate of the University of the South Pacific with an MBA, Singh has been the chief executive of FSC since March of 2021, after a decade as the CEO of Pacific Fishing Company(PAFCO).

Chairman of FSC, Nitya Reddy, emphasised the importance its Board and the Minister of Sugar, Charan Jeath Singh, placed on maintaining continuity in the leadership of the corporation at both current operational and long-term strategic levels.

“Given his nearly 20 years of experience in FSC, we have confidence in his ability to guide the industry through these very difficult times and to help meet its multiple challenges in finding appropriate solutions,” said Reddy.

“Foremost amongst them would be his leadership and responsibility to improve factory performances, targeting higher efficiencies, reduction in costs, achieving more sustainable social and financial outcomes together with a comprehensive effort to increase cane production.”

“During his working career of 30 years, Singh has been intimately involved with manufacturing and processing operations at the highest executive levels. In our view, this has prepared him adequately to lead FSC into its next chapter of restructuring, identifying cost-effective technology, mechanisation, diversification and introduction of commercial opportunities through more value-added products like ethanol, syrup, refined sugar and cogeneration, amongst many others.”

Reddy said from a cane farming background, Singh understands very well the pulse of our sugar community, their many hardships, aspirations, expectations and respects the deep partnership that underpins the relationships of all the stakeholders.

“After the brutal degradation and severe neglect of the industry over the last two decades, its revival requires an urgent, fresh dose of energy, vision, and direction. Singh has been handed the most challenging job in the country, for which he will be held accountable both in delivery and direction. “

“But we also recognise that in fulfilling that, he needs the support not just of the Board, government our FSC team of 2000 and our 11,000 cane farmers but also that of the entire country.”
