Smith should be forgiven, says Williams

Tennis icon Serena Williams thinks actor and rapper Will Smith should be forgiven after slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars last year.

Williams while defending Smith, who played the role of her father in the Oscar-winning biopic ‘King Richard,’ which was released in 2021 said “we’re all human” when discussing the March 2022 incident with Gayle King on CBS Mornings.

The film King Richard, a biopic about William’s father Richard Williams showed how he developed the careers of her and her sister Venus Williams.

The role went on to earn Smith his first-ever Oscar in the Best Actor category — meaning he had a front-row seat with his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith all evening.

Smith has since apologised publicly and to Rock for the moment multiple times, including most recently with a July 29 Instagram video.  “I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk and when he is, he will reach out. So I will I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable,” Will said to the camera.

The 95th Oscar awards will be held on 12 March at the Dolby Theatre Hollywood in the US.
