Police urge parents to be more vigilant

Fiji police have urged parents to supervise their children during beach parties and picnics this festive season.

Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said it is alarming to see that a toll of 31 cases of drowning for the year 2011 compared to 22 of 2010.

Also he said it is advisable to avoid too much alcohol abuse during picnics and beach parties.

Sokomuri said for this festive season there has already been a reported case of drowning after the consumption of alcohol reported from the northern division.
