Heavy Rain Alert upgraded to Warning

The Heavy Rain Alert which was previously in force for parts of the Fiji group has now been upgraded into a Warning.

A Heavy Rain Warning is now in force the Northern Division, Yasawa, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and northern and eastern parts of Viti Levu (Tavua, Rakiraki, Tailevu, Navua, Suva, Nausori, interior Ba-Ra-Naitasiri and Serua-Namosi).

A trough of low pressure lies slow moving over the Fiji group, which is likely to
bring heavy rainfall over the areas in Heavy Rain Warning.

Occasional rain, heavy at times, and few thunderstorms are expected over the heavy
rain warning areas from later tonight.

Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Afternoon or evening thunderstorms which is very common during this time of the
year have the potential to produce intense amount of rainfall, including in areas that
are not in Heavy Rain Warning, within few hours.

Conditions are expected to ease from later Friday.
