Striker Epeli Valevou scored in each half as Rewa overcame Labasa 2-1 in the Digicel Fiji Premier League at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori today and move to the top of the standing.
The postponed Round 1 fixture commenced almost more than a hour from the scheduled 2pm kickoff due to heavy rain and lightening at the venue.
Valevou opened the scoring in the 11th minute after following a neat through pass from youngster Delon Shankar and placing the ball beyond the reach of veteran goalie Simione Tamanisau.
Labasa’s response came through Netani Suluka, who equalised in the 26th minute, ensuring the first half ended 1-1.
The decisive moment arrived in the 55th minute when Valevou found the back of the net again, this time with a perfect header off a Ivan Kumar curling cross from the left flank.
The visitors tried hard to get back in the match and introduced the likes of Ashnil Raju and Ilaisa Nayasi in the forwards, but Rewa’s steady defence led ably by Samuela Kautoga and Peniame Drova kept their line clear till the final whistle.
Extra Rewa now has 10 points after four appearances and is on top of the standing with a better goal difference while Nadi, also with 10 points, slips to second spot.
Extra Labasa has 5 points after a win, two draws and a loss.
