Canes brace for noise in high-stakes clash

The Hurricanes are intensively preparing to face the Fijian Drua in what is anticipated to be a heated encounter in Suva tonight.

With a streak of seven consecutive victories, the Hurricanes aim to continue their winning run against the Drua team, which remains unbeaten at home this season.

Hurricanes Head Coach Clark Laidlaw says they are aware of the unique challenges of playing in Fiji, particularly at the Drua’s home ground.

“We understand the challenge. We know the atmosphere we’re going to get in Suva. They love their rugby, and I think it might be the Drua’s only game in Suva this season,” Laidlaw explained.

“It’s a big challenge, it’s probably as big as it gets.”

In preparation for the tropical conditions and lively crowd, the Hurricanes have simulated the Fijian heat in Wellington and adapted their training to manage the energetic and close-quarters atmosphere expected in Suva.

Laidlaw mentioned the importance of not allowing the heat to dictate their gameplay.

“You can try to slow the game down too much and stop looking for opportunities.  We’ve talked a lot about going over there and playing our own game,” he stated.

The match kicks off at 7.05pm.
