Man killed after alleged assault in Sakoca

A 38-year-old man lost his life after he was allegedly assaulted while trying to intervene in a domestic dispute on Sunday morning in Sakoca.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said the victim had gone to the couple’s home on the back of an invitation to continue drinking following a night out in Suva.

The suspect who arrived later to join the group allegedly got into a heated argument with his wife, whereby he assaulted her.

The victim tried to intervene where he was assaulted and struck with an iron rod causing serious injuries, allegedly resulting in his death.

The suspect’s wife who sustained injuries was treated at the Valelevu Health Centre and discharged.

The suspect remains in custody at the Valelevu Police Station as investigations continue.
