FBC board chair and members resign

Board members of the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation have resigned, including its chair.

This has been confirmed by the outgoing chairman, Sashi Singh.

Singh said this is to allow the Government’s intentions to investigate the National Broadcaster’s operations and functions, as also indicated by the Prime Minister.

“This is a good opportunity for the new board to come in and do a fair investigation of the operations of the FBC Board too.”

Singh said he has no intentions of reapplying for his position, as he already served 11 years as Board Chair.

“I have been looking for an opportunity to resign earlier but did not get an opportunity to do so. Now is a good opportunity for me to move on,” Singh said.

He has indicated that the Ministry of Public Enterprise will be looking after the affairs of the board and that the prerogative is on them to appoint the new board members.

The Prime Minister, in an address to the nation, says they have started an investigation into what appears to be excessive spending in the Department of Information, through payments to the public affairs company Qorvis, the local communications company VATIS, the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation (FBC), and the Fiji Sun.

FijiLive has sent questions to the Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
