Champs held by young Navua outfit

Defending champions Lautoka were held 1-1 by a young and enterprising Navua outfit in Round 2 of the Digicel Fiji Premier League at Churchill Park in Lautoka today.

The Saiyad Ali coached southerners entered the match against the more superior Blues with the underdogs tag, but impressed with their display of fast paced constructive football.

Sairusi Nalaubu’s 31st minute strike separated the two teams at the break.

Navua dominated possession in the second spell but was unlucky to miss numerous scoring opportunity.

Replacement marksman Simione Damuni was chopped inside the Blues box late in the match by skipper Sitiveni Cavuilagi and this awarded Navua the golden opportunity to tie up the match.

Solomon Islands import Ali Mekawir stepped up to the occasion and sent goalkeeper Joela Biuvanua diving in the wrong direction with his attempt.

Both teams have 4 points after registering a win and a draw in the competition.
