Effective border control essential to fight drug trade

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad says effective border control mechanisms are essential in combating the alarming drug issue plaguing the nation.

He highlighted this during his tour of Border Control Units and Fiji Revenue and Customs Service offices around the Western Division.

Prof Prasad was accompanied by new chief executive Udit Singh.

He said Fiji must work tirelessly to ensure our borders remain secure and also elaborated on the importance of tax compliance, where those who should pay tax must pay tax.

Prof Prasad said income generation is pivotal in sustaining Government services and ensuring uninterrupted progress within our society.

He said the Government’s focus remains on consolidating Fiji’s fiscal policies, ongoing revenue collections, and reducing Fiji’s debt-to-GDP ratio.

“Our work does not end here. Revenue collection remains a critical component in our efforts to sustain economic stability and provide essential services to our citizens,” Prof Prasad added.
