Fiji has athletic footballers: Hoyle

New Zealand Fiji Football Incorporated (NZFFI) All Stars centre forward Stephen Hoyle says Fiji has very athletic footballers which makes them a threat to any team.

The 30-year-old from Sheffield in England plys his trade for Eastern Suburbs in New Zealand Premier League, featured at the 2022 Pacific Community Cup in Nadi over the weekend and relished his first-ever tournament in Fiji.

“It’s been a good tournament.”

“My first tournament and I really enjoyed playing here. A lot to take with me and also I have felt a huge difference playing here. Much of individual play but they have huge respect for the opponents.”

“I feel the footballers here are very athletic in the sense that they are very tough and they put on a threatening performance.”

“Our first match against Lautoka was quite tough for me because I’ve never played teams from Fiji. I have played alongside a few players from Fiji in New Zealand.”

“We played Suva and Labasa and the set of players of these teams in Fiji seemed like they are all very passionate about football.”

“Was amazing to see some of their footwork, how they try to beat us around and snatch the ball away and I feel these guys have amazing talents.”

“The players were strong and they had a really good fitness level and it was great to play them. They are fast and always shoot directly at the goal mouth which is kind of good.”
