Newly elected Chairman Ratu Viliame Seruvakula wants the Great Council of Chiefs to be independent of the Ministry of i-Taukei Affairs, because it cannot go forward if the two bodies stay linked together.
Seruvakula said this will ensure the GCC is not seen as a political entity because it is closely linked to the Ministry.
He said a lot of work needs to be done and the GCC is more than just for the indigenous Fijians.
Seruvakula they have to take into account the interests of all citizens of Fiji, who call the nation their home.
“We welcome the challenges,” he said.
Day two of the GCC Meeting has commenced at the Lagoon Resort in Pacific Harbour.
