Fiji Rugby Union’s search for the next Flying Fijians coach is progressing well and the successful applicant will be announced by mid February.
Fiji Rugby High-Performance Unit Manager, Barrie Jon Mather confirmed that four candidates have been shortlisted from a large pool of applicants and the final round of interviews are scheduled for this week.
“We have got two to interview on Thursday and two to interview on Friday. We had a very long list, lot of applicants interested in the role,” said Mather.
The selected candidates will undergo a second round of interviews, which includes a visit to Fiji to immerse themselves in the local culture and build connections.
“The shortlist was down to four applicants, then the plan is to do a second round of interviews with maybe two of the successful candidates,”
This visit aims to assess their compatibility with Fiji’s rugby culture and their potential for forming strong bonds with unions and players.
The dates for the second interview round are yet to be confirmed, depending on who the candidates are and their availability.
“We like to wrap up everything and get everything sorted out by mid-February so that they can get on the job and make the connections they need,” Mather explained.
