No need to involve Army: Chaudhry

Fiji Labour Party Leader and former Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry has expressed concern at the decision to call in the Army to assist Police maintain law and order, saying there does not seem to be a need for it.

Chaudhry in a statement said as far as he can see, the people are calmly waiting for Parliament to be summoned so that a Prime Minister can be elected, leading to the formation of a new Government.

“There are no confirmed reports of any unrest or violence.”

“The presence of the Army on the streets will only create more tension and apprehension among the people at a time like this when there is already a lot of anxiety about what is happening.”
