Rewa head coach Roderick Singh has candidly assessed the past season and set a determined course for the future, emphasizing the team’s resolve and plans for the OFC Champions League.
Reflecting on the year, Singh acknowledged the highs and lows with a focus on the team’s resilience.
“2023 for us was a good season,” “We did not win any major tournaments, but being lined up to play the OFC Championships next year is a significant achievement,” he said.
Singh praised the team’s impressive start, saying, “We started on a very high note, we were unbeaten for 13 games.”
However, he also pointed out the challenges faced when players departed.
“After the transfer window, we lost a few to New Zealand and faced difficulty finding replacements from within the district inhouse, which means not getting players from other districts but inhouse young players, but still we managed to stay second in the league,” added Singh.
Addressing the competitive nature of the league, Singh highlighted the need for consistency. “The national league asked us to be very consistent, which was a challenge, especially after losing key players,” he explained.
Dispelling rumors about potential player movements, Singh clarified the situation around a prospective addition.
“Ivan Kumar is in the country, but we have not spoken to him, nor has he been approached by the Rewa officials,” Singh confirmed, while also expressing interest in the player: “Rewa would love to have him in the team.”
Looking to the future, Singh emphasized the importance of player retention.
“The upcoming transfer window will be big for everybody. For us, we want to secure our boys; we don’t want any more departures,”
Singh’s focus is on nurturing and protecting the team’s talent pool.
“Our major focus is to look after our own boys and keeping them home,”
“We will see the players available in the market that suit Rewa and if we need them. If there are any departures, we will try and look for the best replacements,” Singh concluded
