A man lost part of his scalp following a leopard attack in the residential area of Guwahati, Assam in India.

Four others were also injured in the attack and hospitalised reports news.com.au.

The big cat wandered into the residential area in Guwahati, sparking widespread panic.

"We were simply shocked and stunned to find the leopard inside the house and soon the cat started attacking," a resident, Nipu Das, told the IANS news agency.

After terrorising the city for two hours, the wild cat was tranquilised and taken to a zoo.

At least 20 leopards have been killed in Guwahati, a city of about one million people, over the past two decades.
