Girl, 3, drowns in swimming pool

Police are investigating the death of a 3-year-old girl who was found floating in a swimming pool at her residence along Princess Road in Suva yesterday.

The incident occurred at around 4pm yesterday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu said while the incident is unfortunate, he is calling on all parents to tighten up their supervision roles.

“We cannot afford to be letting our guards down especially when supervising children in a risky environment,” said ACP Driu.

The head of Police Operations said a life has been lost despite numerous calls by authorities on close supervision of children.

“We are constantly putting up awareness and releases over the media and our officers are going around visiting houses doing the same thing.”

“We are calling out again to all parents, please look after your children.”

ACP Driu said an investigation will be conducted to determine on what had actually transpired.
