Ministry waits confirmation of status for IWA

The Ministry of Health says they are waiting on the Registrar of Titles to confirm the registration status of the International Women’s Association and in the meantime suspended all projects with IWA.

In a statement, the Ministry has clarified that they have not dismissed IWA as claimed by its President, Judy Compain.

It said they highly value their contributions and are working towards ensuring their continued involvement.

“We only requested them to temporarily halt their projects as they have been de-registered as a charitable trust from the Registrar of Titles.”

“Presently we are still waiting for confirmation on the registration status of IWA. Until that is verified we will continue to work with IWA,” the statement said.

However, the Ministry has emphasized that any allegations of malicious intent to remove IWA are unfounded.

They said the Ministry is collaborating with the Board of Visitors (BOV) to finalise guidelines for donations and support of the CWM Hospital.

“The CWMH BOV is legislated to work with donor agencies in partnering with the Ministry for the hospital’s good as stipulated. Allegations that the Ministry refused offers from IWA to replace the CWMH lift are unfounded.”

“The Ministry is currently procuring the lift through the Fiji Procurement Office, which was budgeted by the Government.”

“We do not condone the work carried out by IWA in the hospital as aired on social media, as we understand that it was done in the true spirit of philanthropy,” the statement said.

The Ministry is committed to partnering with all registered organisation for the betterment of the people of Fiji.
