Goal is World Cup challenge – Byrne

Newly appointed Flying Fijians Head Coach Mick Byrne says his main goal is to lead the team to the World Cup.

Byrne, who recently concluded a three-year tenure with the Drua, brings a wealth of experience from his involvement in six World Cups to his latest position.

“Personally for me, world cups are a rare challenge, the winner takes all so it’s exciting coaching, growing them, and going on to take the world cup”

“I know how the boys performed last year at the World Cup, reaching the quarterfinals was a great exciting time for Fiji, gives us a great chance to take the next step”

Byrne has already begun preparations for his new role, meeting with team members and speaking to team captain Nayacalevu.

“I’ve already met with some players and spoke to captain Wise; we’re really excited,” he said.

His early interactions with the team have been positive, setting a hopeful tone for the upcoming international fixtures.
