The Consumer Council of Fiji is urging retailers to pass on the recent reduction in flour prices to consumers.
In a statement, FCC Chief Executive Sheema Shandil said the Fijian Competition and Competition Commission announced a six percent decrease in the price of flour, and businesses need to demonstrate their commitment to consumer welfare.
Shandil said businesses have often been swift to pass on price increases to their consumers but have been slow or reluctant to pass on price reductions if they pass them on at all.
“The Fiji Consumer Council will actively monitor businesses’ compliance through trader visits and market surveillance to ensure that the benefits of this price reduction reach consumers,” Shandil said.
