Bilateral meeting paves way for collaboration

Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Charan Jeath Singh met the Minister for Power, New and Renewable Energy Shri Raj Kumar Singh of the Government of India to discuss the exploration of leveraging solar power for the benefit of Fijian communities.

During the strategic meeting in India, Singh unveiled Fiji’s plan to extend grid energy to rural farmers and various communities through the use of solar initiatives, such as the use of solar-powered water pumps.

He also highlighted on the possible solutions for drip irrigation for farmers, solar-powered irrigation technology and solar electrification for rural homes, particularly for farmers, and use of solar energy in certain section of sugar mills in Fiji.

Singh also deliberated Fiji’s prospect of connecting with the International Solar Alliance (ISA), reinforcing their dedication to international collaboration in pursuing greener energy alternatives, as Fiji is the founding member of the ISA.

He said this initiative comes at a crucial time, with the world increasingly turning to green energy to reduce carbon emissions.

The bilateral meeting concluded with a positive outcome as Indian Minister Shri. R.K. Singh committed to sending a team from India to Fiji to assess opportunities for assisting Fijian communities in embracing solar energy solutions and identify various sectors where solar power can be most viable

His Fijian counterpart expressed great enthusiasm for the commitment made by the Indian Government, highlighting the positive impact that the project will bring to the people of Fiji in terms of sustainable development and commitment towards greener energy.
