Famous Fijian professional boxer, Nathan Singh has converted to Islam, a decision that was 16 months in the making.
In an exclusive Interview with FijiLive, Singh, who is now known as Ubbayd Haider, revealed that his initial intention to disprove Islam through research led him to a profound belief in the religion.
“My conversion to Islam was planned for almost 16 months,” “I started with a debate with my African Muslim friend in Australia. I wanted to do research just to prove him wrong, but that research made me believe in Islam. I personally believe it’s the highest and true religion,” he said.
The 24-year-old who was previously a devout Christian, expressed his respect for Christianity while affirming his choice to convert to Islam.
“I was a very strong Christian before this. I wouldn’t say Christianity is a lie, but my choice to convert was because I came to believe in Islam,” he explained.
Discussing his family’s reaction, he mentioned their supportive stance.
“My family was very supportive; for them, as long as I believe in a higher power, that’s all that matters,”
Regarding his boxing career, the totally focused and determined fighter said he is gearing up for his upcoming bout with Mohammad Ali in March.
“My preparations are going well. I know Mohammad Ali is a very good fighter, but I won’t leave my fans disappointed,” he confidently stated.
