Fiji hit out with Japan in pre-Olympic prep

The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team is set to host a series of crucial warm-up matches against Japan’s 7s squad this weekend at Albert Park in Suva.

The games are scheduled to follow an Olympic-style format, with matches on Friday and Saturday, a rest day on Sunday, and the finals slated for Monday.

This approach is designed to simulate the actual Olympic 7s competition format, which will help the players adjust to the rhythm of playing consecutive matches with recovery periods in between.

Fiji Airways Fijian 7s Coach Osea Kolinisau sees this as an opportunity to prepare his team, especially to gauge the potential of newer players who haven’t yet had significant international exposure.

“I want to test out the young boys; they are playing against Japan just to give them an experience of playing an overseas side,” Kolinisau explained.

The teams will compete in two sessions each day, with morning games at 10:30 AM and afternoon games at 3:00 PM.
