Innovation and creativity vital for MSMEs

Attorney-General Siromi Turaga says Fiji’s vibrant Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) need innovation and creativity for further growth and success.

While launching the Fiji Development Bank (FDB) National Small & Medium Enterprises Awards 2022 in Suva, Turaga said MSMEs held almost 60 per cent of the total businesses and contributed around 18 per cent towards the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) prior to COVID 19.

“The MSMEs are branched out and operate effectively in different sectors such as wholesale and retail, agriculture, fisheries, service, hospitality, transport, manufacturing, Information Technology and construction to name a few.”

“There is no doubt that MSMEs also bring innovation into the industry. For the development and growth of Fiji, that is what we need – innovation and creativity.”

The 2022 Awards will be positioned as an empowerment strategy to promote the growth, and boost the resilience of the SME sector in Fiji through the recognition of successful and innovative entrepreneurs.

Businesses will be awarded for their exceptional performance. These SMEs will be those who are champions in their communities through the creation of decent work, promotion of financial inclusion and contribution to the national and global development agenda.

Deadline for submission of entry is 4pm, 30th April 2023.
