New Zealand-based former Fiji U20 defender, Shuiab Khan has made a much-anticipated return to Fijian football, joining forces with his 2014 Fiji U20 teammates for Rewa’s OFC Champions League playoff match against Lautoka FC.
After a hiatus of ten years, Khan has reunited with teammates Setareki Hughes, Tevita Warainivalu, Iosefo Verevou, and Samuela Nabenia.
“It’s been a long time coming, I’ve been asked a lot of times to come play for a route due to obviously work and other circumstances I couldn’t make it,”
Football is a family legacy for him, inherited from his great grandfathers and grandfathers who were former Rewa and national representatives: Tom Shamsher, Jonny Bakridi, Mohammad Kasim Rafiq, Shab Jad Jang, and Izad Jang.
Khan also spoke candidly about his personal performance, saying, “I was satisfied, but there’s still a lot of improvements,”
“The boys are good, they work really hard. Obviously, the result wasn’t for us, but a normal draw is better than nothing,” he said.
The defender emphasized the importance of self-reflection and continuous improvement, aiming to analyze his performance and make necessary adjustments for the upcoming match.
Looking forward to the next game, Khan mentioned the importance of maintaining a clean sheet and contributing positively to the team’s efforts to secure a victory.
“Hopefully, we can keep another clean sheet and be a bit greased on Sunday,” he concluded.
