Police officers charged with alleged assault

Five Police officers will front the Magistrates Court in Nausori tomorrow charged with the alleged assault of a 27-year-old man on 27 March 2023.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew said all face one count of Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm.

The alleged incident occurred in Nausori.

Chew reiterates his commitment to holding Police officers accountable for their actions if they cross the line, and are involved in any form of activities unbecoming of a law enforcement officer.

He stressed that due processes will be followed upon the receipt of an official complaint against any officer, and if assessed to be criminal in nature, the Criminal Investigations Department will take over.

If an officer is found guilty in a court of law, the Acting Commissioner says the officer will be terminated from the organisation.

He added officers are constantly reminded that their role is not only to enforce the law but equally as important, to abide by the law.
