Rabuka backs Commander RFMF

The People’s Alliance Party Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka says he supports statements made by the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, earlier this week.

Earlier this week, Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai stated during his End of the Year Parade that they (his officers) must respect the results of the election even if they are unhappy with the outcome.

Rabuka said he agrees with the Commander that bad choices may result in unjust laws, needless conflicts and violence and calamitous economic policies.

“One needs not look further than post-2014 and 2018 where the majority of the people trusted and chose Voreqe Bainimarama and Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum only to realise the bad choices these two made through the mass enactment of unjust laws to right the wrong, needless conflicts through proceedings and disastrous economic policies,” Rabuka said.

“I totally agree with the Commander RFMF as the military’s constitutional mandate in section 131(2) of the 2013 Constitution is the refuge for those who are on a fear-mongering expedition.”

“The security, defence and well-being of Fiji and all Fijians is the overall responsibility of the RFMF.”

“Injustice, however, is when Bainimarama and Sayed-Khaiyum are preaching chaos and treachery if the FijiFirst Party is not voted by the people, creating fear,” he added.

The People’s Alliance Leader said this is a sign of severe desperation akin to a captain going down with his ship.

Rabuka says under the PA/NFP government, the role of the army and navy will be “enhanced to be at the forefront of climate change adaptation, and assisting in rebuilding climate resilient communities.

Rabuka stated that the People’s Alliance will focus a lot more efforts on adapting to the changing climate and the increasing frequency of natural disasters.

Rabuka further explained that this is in sharp contrast to the Bainimarama government’s mitigation strategy over the past decade, which focused on trying to convince developed nations to limit their emissions.

However, Rabuka has also commented that while Bainimarama gallivants around the world, the people in Fiji struggle to rebuild their lives.
