Yamacia beats Saunaka, stays in hunt

Semi Kunatani led Yamacia defeated Saunaka 19-0 in its last Pool D match at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka today to keep its Cup quarterfinal hopes in the McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s alive.

Yamacia now has 6 points while Police has 5 points and they have their last pool match to play against Wardens who have already qualified with 6 points.

If Police loses to Wardens, Yamacia will get a chance to play in the quarterfinal and a new winner will be crowned.

Both teams came out strong in the opening half and kept each other at bay from scoring tries.

A scrum to Saunaka saw Kunatani break out and inflict an off load pass to fellow 7s star Savenaca Rawaca to score and he converted for a 7-0 lead.

Saunaka found it tough to make a comeback in the match while some ill-discipline was unveiled from both the teams and the referee gave a warning to Yamacia’s Josaia Tuilawaki and Saunaka’s Samuela Toga.

Yamacia maintained the 7-0 lead at the breather.

Saunaka could have scored a try early in the second half only if Tevita Turaga hadn’t lost the ball forward.

Yamacia finished off the match with two tries from playmaker Josese Rokoua and George Bose while Semisi Tasere converted once.

In another match, Army hammered Nukuvura 20-0.
