Qiliho remains suspended COMPOL: Rabuka

Sitiveni Qiliho will remain the suspended Commissioner of Police until the Magistrates Court passes judgment on his case after the High Court found him guilty of Abuse of Office.

This has been highlighted by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka while speaking to FijiLive.

As Chairperson of the Constitutional Offices Commission, Rabuka said a flying minute has been sent to all the members of the COC, and once the Secretariat gets all the word and a majority vote on whether Qiliho stays or is terminated – That would be communicated to the suspended COMPOL.

“At the moment Qiliho remains the suspended Commissioner of Police.”

The Prime Minister highlighted that the conviction entered by the Court last Monday does not necessarily apply to him as the COC Chairperson.

Rabuka said the terms dictated to the Constitutional Offices Commission determine that we make sure any subsequent actions or recommendations to the President after the findings of the Court are complied with, as per the provision of the Constitution.

Qiliho was suspended in January 2023, pending investigations and referral, and the appointment of a tribunal.

Meanwhile, the suspended COMPOL together with the former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will be sentenced tomorrow by the Magistrates Court in Suva.
