I haven’t done anything wrong, says Singh

Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry,  Charan Jeath Singh says he has not done anything wrong and is not concerned about any investigation relating to him.

Speaking to FijiLive outside Parliament today, Singh said since the initial stage and the announcement that a complaint against him was referred to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), he has not been called in for a caution interview.

“There is nothing. I am unaware of any investigations and don’t think I have done anything wrong, so why should I be concerned,” he said.

In October last year, the Fijian Elections Office referred Singh to FICAC for probable breach of Section 114(1) of the Electoral Act 2014.

Acting Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa at that point had stated that a complaint was received from a member of the public regarding Facebook posts made by Singh, confirming that he had made a promise during an election campaign to build two toilets and a shower block at Namandamu Village.

Mataiciwa also said that the FEO found that the response given by Singh was insufficient to merit the dismissal of the complaint as there might be a probable breach of section 114(1) of the Act.
