Dried leaves found in inter-island vessel raid

An early morning raid on an inter-island vessel led to the discovery of substances believed to be marijuana destined for distribution.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said a team from the Central Division and Fiji Police Detector Dog Unit raided the vessel on arrival at the Narain Jetty in Walu Bay, Suva yesterday.

ACP Driu said items seized were dried leaves wrapped in several packs and loose dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

ACP Driu said the seized substances were destined for sale, and the successful raid has potentially saved innocent lives from the devastating impacts of illicit drugs.

The head of the Fiji Police Operations is warning cultivators and suppliers, that police are not going to back down and will continue to direct all efforts into disrupting the illicit trade.

ACP Driu said drugs remain a core focus of policing operations considering their link to other crimes.

The Fiji Detector Dog Unit of the Fiji Police Force was birthed via a partnership with the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service supported by New Zealand Police and New Zealand Customs working together to stop the flow of illicit drugs locally and into the country, by strengthening partnerships between border agencies and law enforcement.
