Govt system is up and ready: Ditoka

Minister for Disaster Management, Sakiasi Ditoka says their system is up and ready to do what is needed during national emergencies.

Ditoka said that Divisional Commissioners and all senior officials are ready.

In a statement, Ditoka said all the arms of government in their divisions converge under Government’s leadership and will take whatever necessary actions to address the emergency facing them at the divisional level.

“If and when a State of Emergency is declared, then I, as mandated by law, will chair the appropriate committee to coordinate the national response. Until then, the Commissioners have full charge of their divisions.”

The Minister also highlighted that he is being constantly updated by his team on what’s happening on the ground, and in some instances on an hourly basis.

“Systems and processes, developed over time, are in place to guide their decisions,” he added.

He has called on the Opposition Members to stop with their running commentaries of what they claimed of Government responding too slow to the areas affected by the recent flooding.

“Political leadership doesn’t always need to be in the limelight for work to get done. Often times, it’s best that that space be given to our hard-working Public Servants to do what they are fully trained and qualified to do.”

He said that the Coalition Government is not into micromanaging our civil servants, just as the Prime Minister allows Ministers their space, we allow them theirs too.
