Leung withdraws interest, no proof against Mataiciwa: PM

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Graham Leung has withdrawn his interest in the substantive position of Supervisor of Elections.

Speaking outside Parliament, Rabuka said Leung has been personally embarrassed by the fact that his name has been bandit around as Fiji’s next Supervisor of Elections.

Rabuka said this will now have to be considered by the Selections Committee and Leung understands that the appointment will be done through certain processes and procedures.

The Prime Minister as the Chairperson of the Constitutional Offices Commission also confirmed that they a complaint against the Acting Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa; however this was an unofficial complaint.

Rabuka said there is no substantial proof of any wrongdoing and they cannot instigate the process of whether Mataiciwa should be investigated or not.
