Ministry’s mandate is to empower Fijians: Raj

Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Ashwin Raj has reminded his staff that their mandate is empowering the lives of those that are most susceptible to vulnerability.

The newly appointed Permanent Secretary said these included women, children, and persons with disabilities, elderly and those with no access to social mobility.

In his first meeting with his Senior Management team, Raj encouraged the ministry’s staff to uphold principles of non-discrimination at all times and be responsive to the needs of all Fijians regardless of their race, religion, colour or creed.

Raj brings with him a wealth of experience in the fields of human rights, women’s empowerment, child protection, and the provision of quality services in the social sector.

He was also the former Director of the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission for several years.
