Snap checks lead to drug seizures and arrests

Snap checks continue to yield positive results with more drug-related seizures and arrests recently.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said in Sigatoka, a 32-year-old man was arrested while a second suspect fled from a roadblock site in Korolevu on Saturday night.

ACP Driu said this is following the discovery of a clear plastic containing white substances believed to be methamphetamine, cash, and several mobile phones.

He said the second suspect was arrested the day after, and both remain in custody.

In Savusavu, a joint traffic operations team between the Police and the Land Transport Authority conducted a snap check and found a bag containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

In a separate raid, another snap check was conducted in Delainavesi, which led to the discovery of a bag containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

ACP Driu said the suspect is in custody and the seized substances have been sent for analysis.

He added that arrests have been made daily for alleged possession of illicit drugs.
