The Social Democratic Liberal Party is looking to make a strong comeback in the 2026 General Election under a new leader who will be elected next Saturday in Suva.
Speaking to FijiLive, SODELPA General Secretary Viliame Takayawa said the focus right now is getting the right person for the job and deciding the strategic way forward to winning the General Election outright.
Takayawa stressed the Party remains optimistic about this and wants a SODELPA Government in place to lead Fiji and not any Coalition Government.
He said the right leader is the one who plots the path forward with strategic outcomes in place and ensures that strategies are met going forward heading into the election.
“In my role as the General-Secretary, I am here to help the constituencies and make sure that everything is in line with the Party’s Constitution and that the Political Parties Act, the Electoral Act, and related laws are followed,” Takayawa said.
He is adamant that the right person who is people-oriented will be elected as this will mean that strategies are people-focused and not based on popularity.
Takayawa said what is relatable are people and policies and not popularity and policies.
“You cannot win an election based on popularity, it has to be centered on people,” he added.
